Day 3 Pics (5/24/10) – Madrid

Durango, CO!

It was a short trip from Santa Fe to Durango today.  Tomorrow we head to the Grand Canyon.  On our trip in to Santa Fe the bug started losing powser (that’s cheryl talk for horsepower), so we had to put it back on the trailer and haul it in to Santa Fe.  We messed around with it on Sunday evening and came to the conclusion that it was not getting any fuel.  On monday morning, Lin rebuilt the carb and we installed another fuel filter inline as the carburetor was full of junk.  And since Lin was messing with that “Dang Beetle,” Jim decided to throw new plugs in the caddy as we were struggling on some of the hills in the heat.  After it was back together, drove the cars around Santa Fe all day Monday, and onwards to Durango on Tuesday!

Forgot to show a picture of Val and I’s Vintage luggage 🙂

The bug overtakes the Caddy!!! Again!

6800 Feet.  Getting up there.  With Santa Fe at about 6000 feet, the trip to Durango via 550 was pretty easy.

Sign says Elevation 7000 feet.

Continental Divide:  Elevation 7380 feet.  The bug had no problem blowing by people!

The question is….when you stand between the two signs….what state are you in?

We’ll be camping here tonight. Well not in the actual river, but in the town. And by camping I mean a Holiday Inn.

Drinks in hand

We each had to sample the drink called a Horny Cadillac at the Mineshaft Tavern near Santa Fe, NM. Seemed only fitting.

Fun Facts and Quotes Day 2

Day 2 resulted in some brilliant notable quotes but I know the group can do better. There are considerably more comments on Day 2 then Day 1 but I must figure out how to be more crafty when writing them down. They are starting to catch on that their every word might be captured!

1. I have a 2 inch ball-don’t tempt me

2. No whammies no whammies (Steve has to run a gauntlet of lights)

3. I can have the Beetle off the trailer in 45 seconds flat! (Karl)

4. We are losing powser not zsurfd wsbhy! (I think Cheryl’s phone starting texting in German)

5. Warning sign: Falling rocks. Might have to take evasive maneuvers.

6. Don’t make me pull this car over, I swear I will! (I wonder how many times we repeat this one during the trip?

7. The people in the back seat are stealing all the Ho Hos! Quickly followed by the following quote.

8. You will give me the Ho Hos

9. Jim is hopped up on Ho Hos

10. After a small engine fire and singed am hair on Lin the fun-o-meter is stuck on zero

11. Oh and by the way, fuel is flammable

12. Somebody put a frickin bell on Karl

I think the last one really sums up the day…..maybe Steve could do a drum roll to introduce this one!

13. Why don’t I just do a shot of JAILOR SERRY

Hey Steve, maybe Jessi could help you out with that!!

Santa Fe

Made it to Santa Fe today with a bunch of Route 66 covered.

KCWS strikes at the Cadillac Ranch……

Oh yes, we set the bug free……

Up to no good.

Right turn Clyde!

Val lounging.

I swear we are coming back with the Porsches!

It was a good day.  We had a little slow going getting up the side of a mountain into Las Vegas, NM, but I think new plugs should help us out there.
